The Behind the Seeds Tour is an extra cost tour experience that puts you behind the seeds, I mean scenes, in the greenhouses at the Land Pavilion. If you like the Living with the Land ride or are otherwise interested in knowing more about the techniques that Disney applies to the greenhouses and fish farms featured in that ride, then this the tour for you.
Coming in at a reasonable cost of $39 per person and being only an hour long this is a pretty accessible next level type experience at Disney World. The tour is fast paced, informative, and engaging. There were several children on the tour ranging in ages from around 3 to 8 or so. The tour seemed to capture their imagination and kept their attention for the duration. I think that’s a ringing endorsement for a tour about plants!
I don’t want to give a detailed review because I don’t want to spoil anything. To cut to the chase, I think this is almost a must do for frequent guests or anyone pf any age with an interest in horticulture and natural sciences.
The begins promptly at the booked time and leaves from the check-in booth located at the exit to the Living the Land Ride, and just to the right of the exit of Soarin. It starts with an introduction to a certain species of bug that Disney has found beneficial to the greenhouse ecosystem. From there, guests are shown a labortory space up close, but separated by windows, before entering the first of 4 greenhouses. Each greenhouse showcases different plants and some unique growing techniques that are explained well by the knowledgeable tour guide. IN our case, the guide made the tour with her energy and enthusiasm. I can’t imagine Disney would choose boring or disinterested cast members for an educational role, but your mileage may vary a bit depending on the individual guide.
Finally, guests are brought into the fish farm area. This was a highlight of the expereince because of a little induced feeding frenzy type situation with the Tilapia. The kids, and big kids (me), really got a kick out of this part. At this point, an the hour has nearly elapsed and it’s time to head back through each green house to exit the tour. The guide warned that the hour would fly by, and she was right.
As I stated before, I think this tour is a winner. Coming in at roughly the cost of two margaritas from the stand near Mexico, this is a much better value. Keep scrolling for some pictures from the tour. I hope you decide to give it a shot!
